Kumoya
Denver, Colorado. 3800 square feet.
Kumoya, located in Denver’s vibrant LoHi neighborhood, is a striking example of thoughtful architectural reinvention. Once a partitioned pizza restaurant with a series of enclosed dining rooms, the space was completely reimagined in 2023 to create an open, fluid environment that encourages connection and flow.
The redesign removed dividing walls and introduced sightlines that draw guests from the entryway to the heart of the restaurant. Natural light now floods the space, enhanced by a minimalist palette of wood, brick, and textured plaster that reflects a modern Japanese sensibility. Exposed beams and subtle architectural detailing add warmth and authenticity, while custom lighting defines intimate zones within the open plan without interrupting its cohesion.
Every design choice was made to transform a formerly segmented layout into a harmonious, communal setting. The result is a refined yet comfortable dining experience—where architecture and atmosphere work together to elevate Kumoya from a simple renovation to an architectural rebirth centered on openness, balance, and modern craftsmanship.
